Punk Flashback

 Todays Punk Flashback The Tights

Named allegedly after a Brummie punkettes from Barbarellas ripped tights. The Tights were active on the local Worcester scene which wasn't a seething bed of punk in early 1977. Though they approached major labels no interest was forthcoming and the band never toured and had no real contacts in the record industry. Instead they explored the only avenue left which was recording.
They made two singles for the Cherry Red label. Pick of the bunch is Bad Hearts /It/ Cracked (1978). I defy you not to be swayed by the catchy chorus and buzzsaw guitar of Bad Hearts. Other single was Howard Hughes / China's Eternal (1978). Pity there wasn't more. Recommended.
They were the first ever band to be signed to the now legendary punk rock label
Cherry Red Records.
Their 2 singles ‘Bad Hearts’ and ‘Howard Hughes’ released in 1978 reached
number 4 and 6 respectively in the UK indie charts at the time.
Review : Radio & Record News : Bad Hearts : 1978
“Lay down a raucous rhythm guitar in the background , bring in clear foreground
vocals, and finally make the sound complete with the bass and drums combining
as one unit, and you have a superb modern pop record.”
When the 80’s arrived and put pay to punk… the band split, but still remained good friends.
After nearly a 27yr break, the band reformed in 2004 believing there were songs
that were left unsung.
2 new EP’s by the band have been released on Cherry Red Records the first ’ 7707 ’ which is a eulogy to the dead and near dead punks from the days of the late ‘70’s and ‘Blood & Flowers’ they are both available on download.
Review : Mick Mercer : November 8th 2006 : The Tights - 7707 : www.mickmercer.com
“The Tights were an unusual punky pop band way back when, with their glorious singles ‘Bad Hearts’ and ‘Howard Hughes’.

Hardcore Flashback

Todays Hardcore Flashback More Than Life

South West, United Kingdom. (2008 – present)
More Than Life is a melodic hardcore band from South West, United Kingdom. They emerged in 2008 with their own brand of honest and passionate hardcore.
They have released 2 EP’s, Prelude and Brave Enough to Fail in 2008, released on Day by Day Records/Anchors Aweigh Records, and one full length album Love Let Me Go in 2010, released on Purgatory Records, respectively.
2010 was a special year for More Than Life with a UK tour together with Dead Swans and Defeater and the release of their debut full length album “Love Let Me Go”. According to Metal Hammer, “More Than Life is right now the best band of the contemporary hardcore scene in the UK. It’s about time that Europe will get to know this great band.”
By self definition the members state that, “We started this band to make shit that means something to us ,tour as much as we can and to create memories driving around playing our songs to people.”
They are heading back into the studio to record a followup to 2010’s LLMG in May 2013. The first single off of that album is Do You Remember which can be viewed on Youtube here. They have also played another song off of this new album live at recent shows. It is called Weight Of The World and can be viewed here.
On April 14th 2014 their newest album What’s Left of Me will be released via Holy Roar Records. Preorders for the album went up on Holy Roar’s site on January 31, 2014.
They have their albums Love Let Me Go and Brave Enough To Fail up for sale on their bandcamp.

Classic Flashback

  Todays Classic Flashback Dave Mason

Dave Mason (born David Thomas Mason, May 10, 1944) is a musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Worcester, England, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic. In his long career, Mason has played and recorded with many of the era's most notable musicians, including Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Russ McLellan and Mama Cass Elliot. Mason's best known song is "Feelin' Alright", recorded by Traffic in 1968 and covered by dozens of artists, including Joe Cocker, who had a major hit with the song in 1969. For Traffic, he also wrote "Hole in my Shoe", a kind of psychedelic satire that became a classic in its own right. "We Just Disagree", Mason's own 1977 solo hit, has become a staple of Oldies and Adult Contemporary radio playlists.

Paradise Lost

Today in 2015 Paradise Lost released the Live album Symphony for the Lost

Halifax, England Doom/Death Metal (early), Gothic Rock/Metal (later)
Status:Active
Years active: 1988-present
Paradise Lost is generally regarded as one of the founders of the the genre of metal known as doomdeath, mixing the raw vocal style of death metal and slowing the riffs down to doom metal speed. Gothic, the band's second album, is widely considered a classic in the genre. As with many doomdeath bands, however, the succeeding albums have moved steadily away from that style, gradually losing the death vocals and instead opting for a more melancholy, slighty goth-influenced mainstream sound, losing almost all metallic ties on albums such as Host and Believe In Nothing. Since then, they've reverted slightly, with Symbol Of Life and the recent Paradise Lost containing a few nods to their mid-period days.
