One of Canada's best known bands (metal or not), Rush may not be thought of as a heavy metal band, certainly not when considering their recent works. But for true metal/hard rock genius, one needs look no further than their first four albums, from the obvious Led Zeppelin leanings of the debut, to the introduction of master drummer Neil Peart on Fly By Night (during those early metallic years, Peart was the premier metal drummer), to the quirkiness of Caress Of Steel, and of course the landmark that is 2112. By the time of, say, Signals, Rush had lost most of their metallic edge, having transitioned to their post-modern, semi-art-hard-rock style (one that is still rarely imitated, a testament to their originality) that has continued to serve them well, the band still active after more than 30 years in the business.
