Tristitia

Today in 2002 Tristitia released the album Garden of Darkness

Halmstad, Sweden Blackened Doom Metal
Status:Active
Years active: 1992-present
Led by Chilean-born guitarist Luis Galves, Tristitia specializes in ponderous, dark, gothic doom metal, with influences from bands such as very early My Dying Bride or older Candlemass. Galves is an inventive guitarist and composer, sprinkling acoustic guitar interludes throughout the songs to bring some variety to the proceedings. Vocally, one hears a combination of black metal rasps and an almost Messiah Marcolin-styled deep croon from Thomas Karlsson (who appeared on the first two albums), while on The Last Grief session vocalist Rickard Bengtsson has a higher-pitched voice, at times slightly out of place here (he sounds more suited to power metal than slow doom). While the overall mood here is always down, there is enough strength in the songwriting to not become monotonous. Having not recorded since 2002, the band is probably done.

Thy Disease

Today in 2001 Thy Disease released the album Devilish Act of Creation

Cracow,Poland Death/Black Metal (early), Industrial Death Metal (later)
Status:Active
Years active: 1999-present
The band was founded in Cracow, in 1999. The same year their first demo, Art of Decadence, appeared. It consisted of four tracks plus a bonus - cover version of Madonna’s "Frozen" (performed with Anna Wojtkowiak from Centuria). As the demo was very warmly welcomed on the underground scene the band decided to continue their musical activity. Also in 1999 Thy Disease won the second prize at Metal Millenium Party and Vader invited them to play as a support act on their Polish tour. In September the band recorded a promo tape with 2 brand new tracks ("Cursed" and "Crashing the Soul") and re-mastered versions of pieces known from the demo ("Art of Decadence", "Finding God", "Frozen", "Eternal Disease", "The Earth"). In January 2001 the band signed a long-term deal with Metal Mind Productions and entered the studio to record their first full-length Devilish Act of Creation. The album was distributed in all Europe and also in Japan, USA and Canada. In April 2001 "Frozen" hit the second position on Radiostacja metal charts Rotten Ten. Readers of Metal Hammer magazine voted Thy Disease the best Polish metal group of 2001. In similar rankings in Mystic Art and Thrash’em All they won respectively third (Debut of the Year) and sixth position. In March 2002 the band played at Metalmania, with such bands as Paradise Lost, Cannibal Corpse, Moonspell, Tiamat or Flowing Tears. In May 2002 Pinochio left the band and Alizee666 joined the group as a new drummer. Metal Mind signed a license deal with South Korean label KMD (for Devilish Act of Creation release in South Korea). In September the band entered Yaro Home Studio to record their new album Cold Skin Obsession. A video to "Perfect Form" was featured on Various Artists "Ultimate Revenge" DVD - a unique guide to Polish death / black metal scene. In October the band had a chance to support Decapitated, Krisiun and Vader in Cracow. During the next couple of months the band focused on promoting the new material (in Europe, USA, Canada, and Peru, among others). The album took 9th position on Legacy Magazine charts (December 2002). "Perfect Form" video was aired in Polish VIVA tv and stayed on VIVA Rock Charts for a few weeks (at 10th, 8th and 6th position). Thy Disease musicians also perform in: Anal Stench (brutal death metal - Yanuary & Psycho, with guys from Decapitated, Sceptic, Crionics, Serpentia Crionics (black metal) - Alizee666 & Marco’tic Delight (gothic metal) - Cube

Pagan's Mind

Today in 2000 Pagan's Mind released there debut album Infinity Divine

Skien, Telemark,Norway Progressive/Power Metal
Status:Active
Years active: 2000-present
Pagan's Mind is a top-flight progressive metal band from Norway, having formed in 2000 and now three albums into their career. Despite the all-too-familiar influences (Dream Theater and a bit of early Queensryche), Pagan's Mind avoids the heard-it-all-before label by simply doing it right. Basically, the band delivers exactly what prog metal fans want, that being superior musicianship, a crystalline production, soaring vocals, and diverse songwriting. Every instrument is clearly heard and makes its presence felt, and every note is seemingly in the right place. Pagan's Mind is unquestionably among the best melodic progressive metal bands playing today.

Belphegor

Today in 2000 Belphegor released the album Necrodaemon Terrorsathan

Salzburg,Austria Death/Black Metal
Status:Active
Years active: 1991-1992 (as Betrayer), 1992-present
Formed by guitarist/screamer Helmuth in 1990, Austrian death/black metal band Belphegor quickly made inroads in their homeland, but had to wait nearly a decade before their efforts crossed borders and were released internationally. Also featuring guitarist Sigurd, bassist Marius, and a revolving drum stool policy, the band's overtly satanic, European-style black metal was first made available to the public in 1995 via their Lethal Records-issued debut album, The Last Supper -- it was later reissued by World War III Records with six bonus tracks (some from their rare 1994 Obscure and Deep EP). Blutsabbath (1997) and Necrodaemon Terrorsathan (2000) were released via Last Episode Records, and in 2003 they inked a deal with Napalm for their fourth studio long-player, Lucifer Incestus. Arriving in 2005, Goatreich – Fleshcult would be the band's last outing for the label, as the following year saw them make the move to Nuclear Blast and issue Pestapokalypse VI. Released in 2008, Bondage Goat Zombie was partly inspired by the writings of the Marquis de Sade, while 2009's Walpurgis Rites – Hexenwahn cited the history of witches as its inspiration. Blood Magick Necromance (2011) and Conjuring the Dead (2014) followed a similar narrative path, and in 2017 Belphegor released their 11th studio long-player, Totenritual, again via Nuclear Blast.

Abruptum

Today in 2000 Abruptum released the EP De Profundis Mors Vas Cousumet

Stockholm,Sweden Black Metal/Dark Ambient/Noise
Status:Active
Years active: 1989-2005, 2008-present
Abruptum was formed in 1990 by IT and All. IT had planned to create the band already in 1987 but it wasn't until 1990 that he found the right member to do it. The same year they recorded their first two demos. After the release of the first demo they kicked out their bass player Ext. After the release of a 7" EP called simply called "Evil" in 1991 (later re-released by Psychoslaughter) All began to drink heavily and was forced to leave the band. IT then found a new member in Evil from the young band Marduk. The band became kind of famous very much thanks to the fact that IT was one of the leaders within what was called the Satanic Black Circle. As IT left the scene completely after several events within the circle and threats to him and his family Morgan continued the band for a while on his own but the project is probably put on ice for now because of the growing popularity of Marduk.

Entombed

Today in 1999 Entombed released the Live album Monkey Puss (Live in London)

Stockholm,Sweden Death Metal/Death 'n' Roll
Years active: 1987-1989 (as Nihilist), 1989-present
Entombed was at the forefront of the first wave of Swedish death metal in the early nineties, with their first two releases (Left Hand Path and Clandestine) widely regarded as landmarks in the field. By 1994, they shifted direction somewhat, starting with Wolverine Blues, towards a more punk-oriented, stripped-down yet still quite heavy style, prompting the coining of phrases such as "death 'n roll" and "death rock" by fans and critics. Predictably, the change in style split existing fans, some of which wanted more traditional death metal and others welcoming the new sound. The past several years has seen Entombed tinkering with their style, offering slight deviations here and there but basically sticking to a now-reliable formula that continues to serve them well. The general consensus is that Same Difference is the lone substandard release in their back catalog, with newer albums such as Morning Star and Uprising receiving the most accolades.
The band fractured in 2013, when guitarist Alex Hellid sat out a tour and then commenced to work with older former members. The rest of the band pressed on, recording an album that ended up being released under the name Entombed A.D., and that band can now be considered the logical successor to Entombed. While a 2014 ruling said that no one could use the Entombed name, Hellid, along with old-time members Uffe Cederland and Nicke Andersson and two new guys, played a gig as Entombed in October 2016, so for the moment, both bands are active.

Total Time: 46:53
Recorded on London '92, during the Gods of Grind tour. This album originally was a bootleg, but the sound was so good that Earache decided to release as a live album. EDIT "the sound was so good..." was the Earache version as Entombed always considered this album being a bootleg and an UNofficiale release. Earache took the decision on their own to release it in order to complete Entombed's contractual obligations when they left on to form their very own label: Threeman.
Originally released on cd and VHS.
The VHS version includes the following videoclips:
Left Hand Path
Stranger Aeons
Hollowman
Wolverine Blues
Night of the Vampire
Released on DVD in 2001

Suicidal Tendencies

Today in 1998 Suicidal Tendencies released the EP Six The Hard Way

Los Angeles (Venice Beach), California Thrash Metal/Crossover
Status:Active
Years active: 1981-1995, 1997-present
Hailing from Venice Beach, the name Suicidal Tendencies became synonymous with the LA skatecore scene, a scene they essentially created (other similar/related bands in this groups would be Beowulf and Excel). Their 1983 self-titled debut album, featuring their classic "Institutionalized", is still regarded as a seminal hardcore album. Four years later would see the follow-up, Join The Army, by which time they had essentially become a thrash band, though still retaining their hardcore roots and attitude. A string of successful albums were released in the late eighties and early nineties, with the band deciding to break up in 1995 following '94's Suicidal For Life. Several years later leader Mike Muir brought some members from the Suicidal side project Infectious Grooves, and by 1999 the band was back in action, and is still active today. Several past members have contributed to other bands, with the most recent (and most notable) being Robert Trujillo's joining Metallica.
