Paradise Lost

Today in 2015 Paradise Lost released the Live album Symphony for the Lost

Halifax, England Doom/Death Metal (early), Gothic Rock/Metal (later)
Status:Active
Years active: 1988-present
Paradise Lost is generally regarded as one of the founders of the the genre of metal known as doomdeath, mixing the raw vocal style of death metal and slowing the riffs down to doom metal speed. Gothic, the band's second album, is widely considered a classic in the genre. As with many doomdeath bands, however, the succeeding albums have moved steadily away from that style, gradually losing the death vocals and instead opting for a more melancholy, slighty goth-influenced mainstream sound, losing almost all metallic ties on albums such as Host and Believe In Nothing. Since then, they've reverted slightly, with Symbol Of Life and the recent Paradise Lost containing a few nods to their mid-period days.

Buckethead

Today in 2015 Buckethead released the album Pike 213 - Crumple

Los Angeles, California Various Metal
Status:Active
Years active:1988-present
Buckethead (Brian Carroll) is an American musician, songwriter and guitar virtuoso, famed for his distinctive stage outfit and elaborate stage shows. He has released over 180 solo studio albums and performed on over 70 more since 1992. He has also made guest appearances on more than 40 different albums by various artists. His music spans such diverse areas as heavy metal, funk, ambient, jazz, electronic, and avant-garde music.
When performing in his theatrical persona, Buckethead used to wear a KFC bucket (emblazoned with an orange bumper sticker that read “FUNERAL” in black block letters) on his head and a plain white costume mask (commonly found in costume shops and used primarily for dramatic theater productions). More recently, he has switched to a plain white bucket no longer bearing the KFC logo. He also incorporates nunchaku, robot dancing, and toy trading into his stage performances. Buckethead’s persona represents a character who was “raised by chickens” and has made it his “mission in life to alert the world to the ongoing chicken holocaust in fast-food joints around the globe.”
Although a multi-instrumentalist, Buckethead is best known for his electric guitar playing. He has been voted number 8 on a list in GuitarOne magazine of the “Top 20 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time.”
Buckethead performs primarily as a solo artist. He has collaborated with a wide variety of high profile artists such as Les Claypool, Tony Williams, Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell, Iggy Pop, Serj Tankian, Guns N’ Roses, Saul Williams, Mike Patton, Viggo Mortensen, and with Bill Laswell in Praxis. Buckethead has also written and performed music for major motion pictures, including: Saw II, Ghosts of Mars, Beverly Hills Ninja, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and Last Action Hero.

Bad Brains

Today in 2012 Bad Brains released the album Into The Future

Washington, District of Columbia Hardcore punk, heavy metal, reggae rock
Status:Active
Years active 1977–1995, 1998–present
By melding punk with reggae, Bad Brains became one of the definitive American hardcore punk groups of the early '80s. Although the group released only a handful of records during its peak, including the legendary cassette-only debut, Bad Brains, they developed a dedicated following, many of whom would later form their own hardcore and alternative bands. As for Bad Brains themselves, they continued to record and tour in varying lineups led by guitarist Dr. Know into the late '90s yet never managed to break out of their cult status.

Into the Future is the ninth studio album by the American hardcore punk band Bad Brains, which was released on November 20, 2012 on Megaforce Records.[1] It is a tribute dedication to Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, a longtime friend of the band who died of cancer six months before its release, and produced their previous album Build a Nation

Slayer

Today in 2006 Slayer released the single Eyes of the Insane

Huntington Park, Los Angeles County, California Thrash Metal
Status:Active
Years active: 1981-present
No introduction necessary here, as Slayer is universally acknowledged as of the premier thrash bands of all time, with Reign In Blood, their most popular album, universally regarded as not just an absolute thrash classic but one of the best metal albums ever. Cut from the same cloth as Metallica (the two debut albums do have similarities), and arguably just as influential, though clearly the musical directions of the two bands grew apart. The band's style has largely remained unchanged over the years, and so has their popularity, as they are still a huge draw live well into their third decade as an active band.
The lineup has largely stayed the same over the years, but recent events have changed that. Drummer Dave Lombardo has been in and out of the band several times, both officially and unofficially. As of this writing, he is unofficially out of the band, with Jon Dette filling his role on tour. Finally, guitarist Jeff Hanneman contracted a rare flesh-eating disease in 2011, forcing him to step aside from the band. Sadly, he passed away in May 2013 from liver failure. Exodus's Gary Holt has been playing live with the band as a replacement, but he has not been named an official member of the band.
